Great News!

I was not accepted to BYU's photography program. However, I have some awesome plans for this summer. One of my photography teachers this semester has really inspired me and is going to help with a project this summer that I am hoping to put into a gallery. I have a lot of plans and ideas about things I can do with my photography. I finally feel like it's starting to have some direction. I just have to keep up my enthusiasm through finals and then start working on my project. I will have more to come for sure.

So, keep checking my photo blog because that is where I will post images for my project. I've been a little bit crazy and excited lately (to which Kevin would readily tell you) and I think this is why. I'm so excited about working on a project that I will enjoy and the prospect of being in a gallery and making a little money. This is definitely helping get through finals (although I just want to work on this and not finals...).

Introducing...

I am pleased to announce the unveiling of Cassidy Tuttle Photography! Please spread the word! This is a website where I am displaying my photography for people to look at and hopefully purchase. So, take a look and let me know what you think. I'm sure it will evolve in the next little while, so I would love any suggestions you have.

Also, I am working on a business card and I'm having a hard time deciding which image to use, so please let me know if you have a favorite. I'm leaning towards the spiral staircase, the blue cupboard (on my other blog, toward the bottom), or the first image posted for my BYU application of the street in Hallstadt. Please let me know what you think!

I've been published!

Three of my images were selected to be published in Touchstones, a journal of art and literature put out by the UVU English department. These are the images that were selected (the lily picture was the image displayed in the math contest):

Happy Anniversary!

Kevin and I have been married for 6 months as of today, Friday the 13th. It was quite a lucky anniversary though. I worked and Kevin had class in the morning but then we got to spend the rest of the day together! It was wonderful. Kevin surprised me (sort of... he's not super good at keeping things secret) with dinner at La Vigna, which was absolutely delicious! I would highly recommend it.

A couple of art shows...

I keep forgetting to mention I was selected to have one of my photos displayed in an art show called "Infinite Beauty" at UVU put on by the Math Department. My image is quite different from the rest of the work there. It is a very interesting exhibit. The show runs until March 30 and is on the 5th floor of the library. The library hours and such can be found here. Next week is Spring Break so the hours will be different.

I am also entering the Woodbury Student Show, both individually and with my Alternative Photography class. I don't know yet if I've been accepted, but the show will be cool anyway. So, if you can, you should go. It runs April 3 - May 1. The Woodbury Art Museum is in the University Mall next to Nordstrom. There hours are listed here.

Application Complete (sort of)

Well, I have finally finished my portfolio for my BYU application. I was planning on turning it in today. However, as I was finishing the matting of one piece, it got a wet spot on it which proved to be a minor disaster. I'll have to reprint it tomorrow; but it isn't a big deal. It feels good to have that done. Now I just get to wait again. I should hear back around the first week of April. Here are the images I submitted along with one of my lanterns:



















Last week I met with each of the Professors who will be reviewing the portfolios and deciding who gets in. It was very interesting and I learned a lot. It made me feel a lot better about what I submitted last year. It wasn't that my photos were bad, they just weren't very different from what everyone else had submitted. BYU is looking for originality and creativity. When I met with the professors I had 15 images (I am only submitting 10) and based on what each of them said and liked or disliked I narrowed down my images and found a few more.

This portfolio is definitely stronger than last time's but I'm not sure if it will quite do the job. However, this time if I don't get accepted I know why. I feel like I've put a lot of effort into putting this all together so it would be really nice if I get accepted, but at the same time I know it is some of my best work and if I don't get accepted it's just because I'm not what BYU is looking for, not because I'm not a good photographer. Wow, that was quite the run on sentence... Anyway, I'll be sure to update you on what happens!

Ticket Update

So last night I missed a call from the police officer who gave me my ticket last week. I called him back this morning but he didn't answer. Well, tonight he called me again to let me know he lost my citation so I don't need to worry about it. I can just rip it up. Yeah... I'm pretty excited about that. He just saved me $95 and 3 hours of traffic school. I can't complain!

BYU

I am applying to BYU's photo program again. So in the next little while when I have my portfolio finalized I'll post that up here.
This a project I have been working on lately. These are little garden lanterns that I am transferring images onto. Here's the process:

1. Remove glass from lantern. Prepare or "size" glass by lightly sanding and spraying with polyurethane.
2. Make a laser copy of the images to be used. (When the process is done the image will be backwards so make a mirrored copy.
3. Paste modge podge onto image and glass.
4. Press imgage onto glass. Rub out the bubbles so the transfer is clean.
5. Paste modge podge on the back of the image and let it dry. (For a cleaner transfer let the glass dry over night, it makes it a lot easier to rub off the paper and not the image.)
6. After the image has dried, run under water and begin rubbing off the paper.
7. Peel off as much as possible, and then keep rubbing until you can see the picture clearly. Let it dry to make sure all the paper has been removed. If not, rinse again and continue to rub.
8. You can spray polyurethane on the image after you have rubbed off all the paper to keep the image looking clear.

Valentine's Day in Vernal

These are some photos from our Valentine's Day trip to Vernal. Isaac was jealous that Aubrey was getting her picture taken, so we photographed him too.

Ticket

I, Cassidy Tuttle, for the first time in my 5.5 years of driving got a speeding ticket on Monday. Yep. Sad day.

Chocolate Bowls

We were inspired by Lindsey Capel and Stephanie's Kitchen. So, a couple nights ago, later than we should have been up, Kevin and I took a stab at making chocolate bowls. It turned out pretty well actually. The bowls looked pretty good and since we let them cool over night we didn't have a problem popping them the next day. Kevin made the filling while I was at school: chocolate cake (with pudding mix in it) and an almond vanilla cream. It was deliciously rich. Kevin and I shared one bowl (which isn't super big) and we almost couldn't finish it because it was so rich. It was wonderful though!

Sit

One of my assignments for my Alternative Photography class is to take a picture of a chair that matches my personality in a random place. Well, the first thing I thought of was the stools that I begged my parents to keep for me that Kevin and I don't have a place for that I keep just because I like them and I know I'll find a use for them one day (that was quite a run on sentence...).

So, I decided that I would photograph one of these. I didn't want it to just be brown and boring though. Today I finished all of my essential homework and had plenty of time to work on the fun stuff. I sanded down one of the stools and painted it green which tends to be my signature color. It isn't completely finished with it, but it looked really cool surrounded by green snow so I thought I would take some pictures. I got a little bit carried away, but it was a lot of fun. Now I just have to wait until I get my Holga to do pictures for class.

PS. After I painted I noticed that there were some leaves on the ground next to the stool. Turns out they are fake, but they went along with the color scheme so I left them there.

Life

Right now things have been pretty busy in the Tuttle home and it looks like it is going to stay that way, thus the lack of blog updates. I have a few minutes free time in one of my classes, so I'll update you on our lives right now.

Kevin is going to school and studying for the MCAT. He took a practice test on Saturday and got a 24 which is great for not having studied. He's just starting a class on Saturdays through BYU.

I'm going to school and working. Art classes are awesome but time consuming. I also found out this week that I won't be able to graduate next April as planned so that throws a little hiccup into things, but it should be figured out soon.

That's about it really. Nothing too exciting. I was telling Kevin last night though, it's funny that I'm a photo major and I've hardly taken any photos since school started. That should change pretty soon, but alas I don't have any pictures to post today. You can look at my latest design projects here if you would like.
